Every time you change phones, move your Google Authenticator accounts.

Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co., an Apple partner, just began mass producing next-generation chips, the firm said Thursday. TSMC is emphasizing the new chip’s lower power usage, which might indicate that the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max’s batteries will last longer.

According to TSMC, the new chips, which will be constructed using a 3-nanometer process, would use 30% to 35% less power than its 5-nanometer processors. But because Apple creates its own iPhone CPUs, it’s hard to predict precisely what the next iPhone will look like based only on TSMC’s innovations. Rather, if Apple decides to employ it, the announcement indicates that TSMC’s 3-nanometer CPU technology will be ready for use in the next iPhone. Software also has a significant impact on battery life; hardware alone does not provide a whole picture.

Additionally, TSMC is comparing the power consumption of its 3nm and 5nm processors. The iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max’s A16 Bionic CPU is constructed using a 4-nanometer technology. However, as my colleague Stephen Shankland notes in his study of the A16 Bionic, circuitry that is smaller tends to perform better since more functions can fit within the chip.

Apple’s new smartphone CPU will only be available in what we anticipate to be the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max if it sticks to the same plan it used for the iPhone 14 generation. For instance, Apple’s latest A16 Bionic chip powers the iPhone 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max, while the standard iPhone 14 and 14 Plus are powered by the company’s A15 Bionic chipset, which was developed earlier. The A17 Bionic will probably be the name of Apple’s next iPhone processor, if the company continues to use the same naming scheme.

A request for comment from CNET about the potential implications of TSMC’s new processor for the iPhone 15 was not immediately answered by Apple.

New iPhone models are often released by Apple in September. According to new European Union laws, the iPhone 15 series may be the first devices from the firm to employ USB-C charging rather than Apple’s exclusive Lightning connection. Other than that, there are reports that Apple’s next iPhones may have new solid-state buttons and a periscope-style telephoto lens.

To move your accounts from one phone to another, follow these steps. Although it shouldn’t take long, it’s wise to allow some time to ensure everything runs without a hitch.

To expedite the procedure, use the import tool.
Use the transfer function in the app to make your life simpler when you’re moving from one Android phone to another. Verify that your old phone is running the most recent version of Authenticator by looking for updates in the App Store on your iPhone or the Play Store on your Android device. Additionally, your new phone must have Authenticator installed: Get it here for Android or iPhone.

Then, on your previous phone, do the following: 1. Launch Authenticator, then hit the three-dot menu icon and choose Transfer accounts.

  1. When asked, choose Export accounts and provide your PIN number.
  2. Select the accounts you want to move, then select Next. Transfer of Google Authenticator
    Now that you can import existing accounts, transferring Authenticator is significantly simpler.
    On the new phone you got 1. Tap Get Started after opening Authenticator.
  3. At the bottom of the page, choose Import existing accounts?
  4. Choose to scan the QR code. You may be able to scan one or more QR codes on your previous phone. To complete the transfer procedure, adhere to the instructions. With every successful transfer, a confirmation prompt will appear. The traditional method is still effective.
    You may still set up Authenticator by manually moving each of your accounts one at a time if the transfer tool isn’t working for you. To transfer your Google account, you must complete the following:
  5. Set up your new phone’s Authenticator.

    When relocating Google Authenticator, make sure both your old and new phones are close by.

Click the trash can symbol to confirm your choice to completely deactivate Google Authenticator. After that, Google will resume sending your 2FA codes via SMS.
  7. On your new phone, launch the Authenticator app and choose Begin > Scan barcode. To make sure everything is operating as it should, use the Authenticator app to scan the QR code that appears on Google’s website. Then, input the six-digit code. The codes on your previous device will be invalid after that. For any service you now use with Google Authenticator, such as Amazon, Dropbox, Facebook, or Apple, repeat these steps. You won’t want to be locked out of your accounts if you remove the Authenticator app from your old phone before you’ve transferred all of your accounts to your new phone.
