In the weeks after the US presidential election, X, previously known as Twitter, has seen a sharp decline in its user base. Similarweb reports that around 115,000 US users canceled their X accounts on November 6. Since then, a number of well-known public personalities and celebrities have either announced their departures or vanished from the website. Furthermore, they’re doing more than just uninstalling the program.
The Guardian, a British news outlet, said last month that it would no longer publish on X and was archiving its accounts, stating “that the benefits of being on X are now outweighed by the negatives and that resources could be better used promoting our journalism elsewhere.” Another factor contributing to users abandoning the service may be X’s recent decision to modify the way its block function operates.
The official Bluesky account said yesterday that over a million users have registered for the program since November 5, suggesting that the fledgling social network is a major new landing spot for many X departees.
