When everything works together, your browser’s cache may keep things a bit snappier by storing website material for quicker retrieval. However, page components may change over time: The website may add new photos, alter layouts, etc., and issues may arise.

You are effectively seeing a ghost of a webpage when cached data does not correspond to the most recent version of that page. Instead of the current appearance, your browser is loading the fragmented remains of what it once was. There are more ghosts as more pages change over time. Because of this, it’s a good idea to periodically delete the cache in your browser.

Your iPhone’s cache accumulates that digital trash over time, regardless of whether you use Chrome, Safari, or another browser. Even with iOS 18, clearing your cache may speed up your online browsing by giving the browser a fresh start. (Try adjusting the storage on your iPhone if you want your phone to operate more quickly.)

While they store information about user data instead of website data, website cookies are comparable. You have the opportunity to change such settings by clearing your cookies, which could enhance your surfing experience. Keep in mind that deleting your cookies and cache will force you to log out of websites, requiring you to reset any settings and log in again. It may be a helpful repair if you’ve recently made changes to settings that aren’t being implemented correctly, and the initial investment of that time can result in a more seamless experience later on.

Depending on the browser you use, follow these detailed instructions to clear your iPhone’s cache.

What happens if the cache is cleared?

By clearing your cache, you may avoid downloading the website data every time you visit by deleting the data that your phone has saved locally. Over time, the information in your cache accumulates and may cause lag if it is too large or outdated. (When I checked, Chrome had roughly 150MB of data on my phone.) Sites get a new start when that data is cleared, which might speed up your browser and resolve certain loading issues. You must be ready to sign in to everything again after clearing your cache, which also logs you out of pages.

How often should my cache be cleared?

The majority of users only need to empty their caches once or twice a month. Usually, at that point, your browser will start to slow down since it has accumulated a large cache. You should err on the side of cleaning your cache more often if you visit a lot of websites.
