Reports of the iPhone 20 Indicate an All-Glass ‘Waterfall’ Screen and a Name Inspired by the Anniversary

Apple may do more than just modify the camera bump if it hopes to create a big impression on the iPhone’s 20th birthday in 2027.

Bloomberg writer Mark Gurman said on this week’s Geared Up podcast that Apple developers are internally developing an iPhone prototype called “Glass Wing,” which will have a waterfall-like display that extends over the top and bottom of the phone in addition to down the left and right sides.

Gurman referred to it as the “iPhone X design but on steroids” and said that iOS 26 was created just for this phone.

It is anticipated that a foldable will be available by the end of 2026.

In order to align the model number with the anniversary year, Gurman also suggested that Apple may call the smartphone the “iPhone 20” rather than the “iPhone 19”. The iPhone would undergo its most significant physical change since the iPhone X eliminated the Home button in 2017 with a quad-curved, bezel-free screen.

Apple is reportedly investigating “four-edge bending” OLED technology to achieve that borderless appearance, according to reports from South Korea’s ETNews. A “mostly glass, curved iPhone without any cutouts in the display,” as described in Gurman’s Power On email, may conceal the Face ID and selfie camera sensors under the screen.

Apple believes this phone will undergo a significant overhaul, as seen by the renaming, which would mirror the company’s 2017 shift from the iPhone 8 to the iPhone X and this year’s jump from iOS 18 to iOS 26.
