Apple launched iOS 18.2 this week. Although the update’s new Apple Intelligence capabilities are the main focus of its marketing, some U.S. iPhone owners have long been looking forward to another feature.
Customers of Boost Mobile with iPhones may now utilize RCS (Rich Communication Services) in place of SMS and MMS thanks to the iOS 18.2 upgrade.
The modification was first noticed by a Reddit user (via Android Authority). Before formally announcing RCS support at this year’s Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) in June, Apple hinted at it last year.
The next generation of text messaging, known as RCS, is acknowledged for improving communication between Apple and Android users. Benefits of this technology include enhanced group conversations, read receipts, typing indications, and high-quality media sharing, among others. These functionalities were limited to messages sent and received between Apple device users prior to the iOS 18 version.
Apple and Google have promoted RCS in various ways. Without requiring carrier involvement, Google started enabling RCS on Android handsets via Google Messages. However, Apple mandates that carriers individually provide the capability. Apple maintains a list of carriers that offer the functionality around the globe. RCS texting is already supported by AT&T, Verizon, and other companies in the United States.

The next iOS 18 upgrade is imminent. What we know is as follows:
The outlook for Apple’s iOS 19 upgrade is still not positive.
With a ton of new Apple Intelligence capabilities, iOS 18.2 is now available.
After installing iOS 18.2 on your compatible iPhone, RCS ought to be activated if you are a Boost Mobile client. Open the Settings app, choose Apps > Messages > RCS Messaging, and confirm that the toggle is set on to see whether RCS is enabled. It’s conceivable that the carrier hasn’t implemented RCS Messaging in your region yet if you don’t see it mentioned.
You may also need to tap General > About in the Settings app to make sure RCS is operating correctly. Next, choose Update from the option that appears.
